Equus 3160 Unfortunately ABS is only most 1996 and newer

Unfortunately my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix does not report the ABS. Otherwise I am happy with my purchase, though I have not tried to download any updates with the computer. This is the first scanner I've purchased so this scanner does a lot more than I know how to use, yet it is simple enough to use with very little instruction. I think my brothers are benefitting from it more than I am.

Equus 3160 Excellent unit with a couple issues

This is my second Innova scanner. I bought the 3160 mainly for the live-view and triggered capture modes. Overall, it's an excellent unit. I won't bore you with the good (live view and ABS, blah, blah, blah) as the other reviews have covered those points.

IMO, there are a couple of SW design issues with the 3160. First, the unit can't be turned OFF when it's plugged into the car's OBD bus. This is fairly annoying because I don't want the unit iddling in a hot car. i.e. I have to physically unplug the unit before it can be turned OFF. Secondly, when the unit is put into triggered capture mode you can't view live data. This isn't a major deal but still sort of ticks me off. Thirdly, there is intermittent radio noise when the unit is connected to the car OBD bus. Due to these 'nits' I'm giving this unit a 4 start rating but that said, I still highly recommend the unit.

Opps: One additional problem showed up when I tried to download a set DTC triggered data to my computer. First off, it's very lame that the 3160 still uses a serial port and not USB(most laptops don't have serial ports!!!!) and secondly, the PC SW somehow deleted the data within the 3160. JMO, but the SW interface is pretty clunky. I'll still leave the 4 star rating until I can resolve this download issue. If I can't get the unit to download reliably then it aint gonna keep 4 stars. ??? To be continued.

Equus 3160 Awesome Product at a Great Price

This product is the same product that Sears sells (Craftsman); however, theirs is red and about $400 more. This product is a great investment and had no problems reading my codes. I am have loaned it out to several people and they love it as well.

I would recommend this product to anyone that is having error codes in their vehicle as it is well worth the money. I purchased this product specifically for the ABS codes and it told me exactly which speed sensor was acting up. The dealership will charge $110 to read the code or you can purchase this product for as low as two reads from the dealership.

Equus 3160 Worth it!,

Does what it advertises to do. Worth the money. The less than 5 star ratings say dealer scanners are better and they are, but put a GM scanner on a Toyota and see what happens. Nothing scans everything, but this scans the most for >$200. I would buy again.

Equus 3160 Equus 3160 Awesome Product

I am writing this review to express my overwhelming satisfaction with my Equus 3160 scan tool. Equus has several models and I would recommend reviewing the features before purchasing a particular model or scan tool to make sure it meets your expectations and needs. The 3160 is Equus' current top of the line OBD II scan tool. It is for 1996 and newer vehicles only. The ABS is only for some newer domestic models. To be honest, I really haven't used all the features; However, it is very simple to use. I purchased mine because I had the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) illuminate and stay on in my 2001 Sable. It was also getting terrible gas mileage at $3.00 a gallon. A Mercury dealer told me it needed $1200 worth of repairs. A little internet research led me to scan tools as a method of figuring out the problem. I thought how could I go wrong for $200! I hooked the 3160 up and did a KOEO (Key On Engine Off) test. In less than ten seconds it indicated a 401 code. I did a little more internet research that recommended replacing the DPFE (EGR) sensor. Voila! An hour or so of time and a $36 part and problem solved. Exhilarating!

Equus 3160 Best OBD Scanner I have Seen on the Market!!!

Wow!! What can I say, this OBD2 scanner really did the trick, considering it's just a fraction of what the retail price is I am quite pleased in owning such device. Not only did it output properly what was wrong at the time with my car, but it gave more information then the OBD scanner other mechanic shops have, which weren't as accurate. Highly recommend this device to anyone looking outside for themselves in checking their own cars ECM (Engine Control Module) to find out if their is anything wrong or any error codes coming back by default/faulty.

Equus 3160 OBDII Scanner

I reviewed many different scanners in this price range and this one was highly rated and met all my requirements. It is easy to use, records data before, during, and after a fault code. It can erase codes and can display ABS codes for certain model domestic vehicles. I've had to use it on my'96 Acura RL many times and it has worked flawlessly. It beats going to a repair shop or Parts house every time a code pops up. Once you've read the codes and engine data, you can download the data to your computer and create a nice little report. This is helpful if you have to take the vehicle to a repair shop. It lets the repair shop know that you know what the problem is and they may be less likely to try to pull something. It also is a means of recording problems for future review. Another nice ability is that the software can be upgraded via the Internet. I'm hoping that Equus includes some foreign ABS codes in future updates. All in all - a lot of bang for the buck. I'm very please with my purchase.

Equus 3160 This thing is great

For the money, this is a great scanner tool. I have used the Snap-on scanners before, and before I found this scanner, I thought snapon scanners were the only kind to have. This thing is very comparable to the best snap on scanners as far as engine live data and diagnostics go. It is great that this thing pulls ABS codes for some vehicles as well. In my opinion, this was worth every single penny I spent on it.

Equus 3160 Excellent

This is an excellent tool. I bought this scanner to repair an ABS problem on a Ford Windstar. The ABS features are built right into the scanner. The other ABS scanners I saw were separate tools. Although they may have had more capabilities. I really like the back-light and the live data feature. I had my wife drive the vehicle while I was able to watch the scanner run live. Also it comes with a nice case, but it is very small. You may want to get a larger generic case to use instead. I have not connected it to the internet yet. I don't think this is a professional grade tool, I think it is really meant for home use. I would recommend this scanner to any do-it-your self mechanic. It is hard to beat for the price.
